Adding Cross Board Dependencies to Your Item View

1. Install the Cross Board Dependencies app from the monday.com Marketplace.
2. Open any item on any board.
3. Click "Add View" in the item view panel.
4. Search for and select "Cross Board Dependencies" from the list.

How to Use Cross Board Dependencies

Viewing Dependencies

The app shows two sections:

• Blocks (outgoing): Items this task blocks
• Blocked by (incoming): Items that block this task

Each dependencies shows:

• Item name (clickable link)
• Board name
• Current status with color indicator
• Delete option

Adding a Dependency

1. Click the "Add Dependency" button.
2. Choose dependency type:
   • "This task blocks" — this item blocks another item
   • "This task is blocked by" — this item is blocked by another item
3. Search for the item:
   • Type in the search box
   • Results show items from all boards in your workspace
   • Select the item you want to link
4. The dependency is added and appears in the appropriate section.

Searching for Items

• The search scans all boards in your workspace
• Results show item name and board name
• Search is case-insensitive and matches partial names
• Maximum 20 results displayed

Deleting a Dependency

• Find the dependency in the "Blocks" or "Blocked by" section
• Click the delete icon (trash icon) on the dependency card
• Confirm deletion in the modal
• The dependency is removed from the list

Understanding Dependency Types

• "This task blocks" (Blocks):
  • This item must be completed before the linked item can start
  • Example: "Design Mockup" blocks "Development Task"
• "This task is blocked by" (Blocked by):
  • This item cannot start until the linked item is completed
  • Example: "Development Task" is blocked by "Design Mockup"

Notes

• Dependencies are stored per item. Each item maintains its own dependency list.
• The app works across all boards in your workspace.
• You cannot create a dependency where an item depends on itself.
• Duplicate dependencies are prevented (same relationship cannot be added twice).
• Status colors reflect the current status of dependent items.
• Dependencies are one-way relationships stored from the current item's perspective.

Tips

• Use "Blocks" to show what you're waiting on.
• Use "Blocked by" to show what's waiting on you.
• Check status colors to quickly see if blockers are complete.
• Use the search to quickly find items across boards.
• Click an item name to open it in Monday.com.
